Mom Hack: Home Hand Sanitizer Stations

LOOOONG before the pandemic started, our family had implemented these ‘hand sanitizer stations’ because let’s face it: kids can be gross, haha. I love having these in our high traffic areas (upstairs, in our loft and downstairs, in our kitchen) where we come and go.

This is where we keep the one upstairs in our loft – where our kids play, do homework, and we chill as a family!

These soap dispensers can totally double as a sanitizer holder and they work like a charm. Of course, washing hands is essential, but having these around where we frequent has been key for us.

Kinda hard to see this one but it’s in the corner of the photo, lol. We keep one next to our sink/the door to our backyard!

We buy a large container of hand sanitizer and then just refill these as needed. I’ve found we aren’t buying as many plastic bottles with this method, too.

Entryway Table Styling

One area of our house that I’ve been stumped on is our entryway. It’s not very big, but after C did the shiplap a few years ago (which I LOVE!), I just haven’t been able to find out what would work for us as a fam. For a while, it looked like this (below), and while I thought it was cute, there was something always kind of off about it.

About a month ago, we went shopping for a new couch (which I can’t wait to share!) and the room had to undergo another change since the couch is so large, we needed to get rid of our electric fireplace. On it, held my fave mirror and a couple of odds and ends I really didn’t want to part with.

I figured I could clear the space in our entryway and listed the bench and the other decor pieces on FB Marketplace one morning and had them gone by lunch time.

I found attainable, tall table on Amazon. There are sooo many great tall console tables out there, but most cost an arm and a leg. I’m so impressed with quality of this one for the price. I made sure to measure before buying. I wanted to make sure it wouldn’t be too long and so we could still open the door and it wouldn’t stick out too far. I could totally picture the mirror sitting in the middle of it with a couple of those other items that sat on top of the fireplace.

The candles are faux/battery operated – but they look SO realistic! They flicker and come with a remote and are definitely worth the price. The whole fam loves them and we love how they look at night time in our home.

I also thought it would be so much fun to decorate it for the holidays too. Stay tuned for how I’m going to deck it out for Halloween!! I’m thinking I might use it to hold our stockings this year, since we no longer have that fireplace and our family room has limited wall space as well.

Two Ingredient Angel Food Cake

All you need for this one is a can of your favorite pie filling (I did lemon for Honey!) and a box of angel food cake. Instead of water or any of the other ingredients the box may call for, all you do is add the canned filling to the dry cake mix, and bake for 50-60 minutes! Top with whipped cream and your fave fresh fruit! Since we did lemon filling, I opted to top with blueberries because I feel they compliment each other nicely – also a major fave of my girl’s!

Another idea that would be so yummy with this would be adding apple filling for fall/Thanksgiving!

Ingredients

1 box angel food cake mix

1 can of your fave pie filling

Optional: fave fresh fruit + whipped cream to top

Directions

Combine dry angel food cake mix and pie filling in a medium bowl. Mix until well combined. Add to a greased baking dish and bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

Optional: top with homemade/store bought whip cream and fresh fruit. To make the homemade whipped cream, add 1 cup of heavy whipping cream to a stand mixer (or bowl for a hand mixer). Whip for about 4-5 minutes until peaks form, and then add in 3/4 cup of powdered sugar and mix for another minute or so.
