For as long as I’ve been a mom (9.5 years!), I can remember hearing others say, “I will NOT put my baby/kid in corny character tees” or, “Yeaaaahhh…we don’t do the character clothes”. I mean, to each their own – some of the commercialized wear is a bit much sometimes, but if the kids love it, why not? For me, as long as it’s not an every day thing or literally the only thing in their closets, I’m not going to forbid it.
Now a days, a lot of the big box stores do a pretty decent job with the licensed graphics anyway. There are actually so many I think are super cute! I’m rounding up a handful of the ones I’ve seen recently at H&M, Target, and Old Navy that I think are gender neutral and ones my kids would love. I’ve picked up some Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Baby Yoda, and Pikachu ones lately for my older 3 and they were a hit!
I think a lot of these brands are aware that the 2022 mom doesn’t want cartoons splashed all over in a loud way and they do a good job of making it more modernized. This definitely appeals more to them while still giving the kiddos something that many of them recognize and identify with! I actually find myself gravitating more toward some of this over the last year because I know my kids love certain series/characters and they’re only little right now. I’m sure it won’t be cool in a few more years so I don’t mind fostering their innocence when it comes to “fashion” stuff!
