This was a project I had been wanting to tackle for a while, but I knew it was going to require some time commitment, so, I kept putting it off. I wish I hadn’t, because I love it that much!! It’s really made cooking and baking so much easier. I love being able to see what I have at a glance. I ended up alphabetizing it that way when I’m cooking – say I need garlic salt – I go right to the G’s! 🤓
For the longest time I kept our spices their original bottles in some wire bins. Nothing really wrong with that, but for someone like me who is very visual, it wasn’t enjoyable searching out and behind multiple bottles in multiple bins.
I knew I wanted to have them all lined up as uniform as possible, so I ordered these bamboo tiered shelves. TIP: If you’re going to use these, measure your space to see how many you need, with keeping in mind how many spice bottles you plan to use! They do extend so account for that too! I bought two, one of which I have extended out all of the way and the other I extended just a few centimeters. The shelf that is extended out all of the way can fit 33 spice jars!!! Hope this helps give you an idea before you buy, too!!
Now, to the jars themselves. I knew I wanted to keep with the bamboo look of the shelf, so I went with these jars that have bamboo tops. I didn’t love the labels that came with them and since we have so many black accents in our pantry and kitchen, I opted to buy these extra black labels for them. They literally come with every spice under the sun, plus a few blank labels if you want to add your own.
In total, I spent about $100 on this project. Could it have been a little cheaper without the extra labels? Sure!!!! Could I have not added as many spices and cut the cost that way too? Absolutely! But I am always cooking and baking and didn’t want to leave out even the small handful of spices that rarely get used, so that they’re there when I need them! I really love how everything came out so I wouldn’t do it any differently.
Stay tuned for more organizational posts to come next month! Thanks for being here 🙂
