“April Showers Bring May Flowers!” Happy May!! Surprisingly, I didn’t really see all of the NSYNC/JT “it’s gonna be May” memes flying around this year – does that mean that’s over now? Lol. Anyway, we are excited May is here and I’m gonna do a quick wrap up of last month for our fam!
We finished up our laundry room refresh project, started our loft refresh (which I shared a little about HERE), visited with friends from out of town, battled pink eye (yay for that being over with after it made it through almost all 6 of us by the very end!), and had a very happy Easter!
Honey and I baked some cute spring chickadee and rooster cupcakes, we ate dinner outside (attempting to still do this as much as we can!), C has still been working a ton (below pic is from when he hadn’t seen Colly in a few days due to her not being awake when he leaves and coming home when she’s already in bed), and Cole had a little trip to PCH’s emergency room right at the very end. Thankfully, he is okay, but it did give us a little scare!
Conner has been riding his bike after school almost daily, and on the weekends he’ll ask me to ride a scooter (Honey’s, which is too big for her and goes really fast haha) which has been fun too. We’ve gotten some good one on one time and I love that he still wants to hang out with me. Holding on to that as much as I can right now. Why do they have to grow up so fast!?!?
To recap on Cole, I shared a little on my stories this week that his face started swelling mid day on Friday (4/29) for no apparent reason. He had no fever or temperature, wasn’t in any pain (unless we put pressure where it was swelling) and wasn’t complaining really about anything. C took him to urgent care and they said he’d need to be seen at Phoenix Children’s because they couldn’t diagnose or treat and they said his vision was blurred based on a basic eye test. After waiting 8 hours in the ER (from 6pm-2am) we got a room right after 2 where they did an ultrasound where the swelling was. Turns out, he just has a swollen salivary gland (who knew!?) and no infection was present (praise!). We got to go home a little bit before 7 am after a very long and exhausting night, but we are so thankful it was nothing serious and to the medical staff there who helped us. I actually just took him to a follow up appt with our pediatrician today and he said it’s still inflamed (which can take weeks/months to resolve all of the way) but he’s on a good path right now and still not infected!
Also home related, with our laundry room being done (so excited to share all of the details on this soon!) I was able to get the new shelf C installed completely organized with all of our laundry and cleaning products. I also shared a clean out/reorganization of our kitchen sink space and one of the bathroom sinks upstairs. It feels SO good to check these things I’ve been wanting to do off my list entirely!
Another highlight from our month: we bought Hun some sponge curlers and curled her hair this way for the first time! To say she was overjoyed was an understatement. I’m constantly telling her her hair is beautiful as is, but she has been begging for hair like ‘Mama and Mugga (Colly)’. I’m surprised she actually sleeps the whole night in them – she has been committed to the process, haha! We’ve only done in a few times since but it’s a fun little thing for her right now. The pic below is when she saw herself in the mirror for the first time after the curlers came out – cue all the feels. This is a memory I’ll never forget, as mundane as it might be!! Having girls is so much fun.
Oh…and how could I forget this? 😵💫🥴 April was also the month we found out we had a hive of 8,000 (!!!!) bees underneath our roof. They were off to the other side of the house thankfully so they weren’t really in plain sight. What made me scratch my head and call the exterminator was when I found (randomly) 3 dead ones in my kitchen at different times of the day and then a couple of handfuls of other ones right outside of our patio door (that were also dead!). Thankfully our monthly exterminator who treats our house also has a bee removal service, so they came out the next day and located the hive because I was clueless (he was like, “Mrs. Disney…I didn’t even really have to look that far and found it right away…” OOPS haha). It was taken down in about an hour and the Queen was removed. We have seen some stragglers since but no rebuilding, so fingers crossed that’s the end of our bee issues for a while!
So, over all it was really an action packed month! Haha hoping these ‘showers’ really do bring some flowers for us!!! We’ve tried to look at the bright side of some of the more challenging situations and know that we are so fortunate to be where we are and not dealing with other things that could be so much harder. It’s been a good perspective to have and keep close.
Onto May, let’s goooo!! I’ll be sharing some more organizing tips this month which I’m really excited for, along with the other home updates so stay tuned!!
