Let me start off by telling you, this is one DIY that’s way easier than it looks!! We did this with both witch hats and remote battery operated candles. The candles remind me of Harry Potter and I absolutely LOVE it!! Wish we could keep it up all year, seriously. The kids are even more pumped on them!
So for both DIYs/installs, I used this clear 25mm string and these 3m ceiling hooks. Both pretty inexpensive and worked so well for hanging these. The hat kit from Amazon does come with this clear string, but it’s not as durable and in my opinion, not good at all. Definitely spring for the $6 string linked above!
For the Witch Hats
First, I poked a hole through both sides of the hat with a paper clip. If you have a nail, sewing needle, really anything small and pokey, it should work.
I next threaded the string thru and tied a double knot.
Once that was done, I gave the string some slack and cut it from the spool.
After this, I made another loop at the end (this is where you will attach the string to the command hook). We wanted various lengths for them to hang at, giving the illusion of them actually flying!
For the Candles
Before you start, make sure you insert all of the batteries into the candles and then turn them on at the bottom of the stick, and then off with the remote. Test this before you hang them, that way you’re not pulling them down once they’re hung to fix the on/off of them.
Take the clear string and tie a double knot around the base of the flame. Give the string some slack and then cut, following exactly what you did with the hats and tying another loop at the end of the string.
Again, you want to have some varying lengths to look like they’re floating and flying! Hang them from your command ceiling hooks, and voila!!!
